Today Lake Macquarie photojournalist, Carla Edwards, brings HERStory: Remembering Australia's Military Women, to the NSW Parliament. HERStory, a national documentary and oral history project, ensures the stories of women who served Australia are no longer left at the edges of public memory.
The project began after Carla recognised how little visible information existed about the women who had helped keep Australia safe across war, peacekeeping, humanitarian operations, and defence life more broadly. Their service was real, but their place in public memory often felt partial, brief, or missing.
Over 250 women have been photographed and interviewed across Australia so far Each adding to a growing national record of women's military service and lived experience. HERStory continues to grow as more women come forward, more stories are recorded, and more exhibitions are shown across the country.
The exhibition will be shown until 30 April 2026 in the public entry Fountain Court, Parliament of NSW.
