Here are some of my highlights from the last 2 sitting weeks in Macquarie Street
I sponsored a 21,000+ strong petition created by Andrew and Melissa Dimovski, who are calling on the Government to reform laws for drivers who flee fatal crashes. Andrew and Melissa tragically lost their son, Bryson, in a fatal hit-and-run in 2023. They have shown incredible fortitude in channelling their grief into action and advocating for a more accountable and just legal system. I was honoured to sponsor their petition and call on the Government to investigate the compelling reforms they proposed.
With the Macquarie Coal Complex at Teralba being one of the two proposed locations for the Hunter’s new train manufacturing hub, Lake Macquarie City Council and I met with NSW Government Ministers regarding the potential offered by this site.
The importance of health services is a growing concern, and I spoke about the expansion of Rehab in the Home to southern Lake Macquarie, which will help meet the need for community health services in this growing region. We still need a permanent health facility in the Morisset area, and I continue to advocate for a Health One.
I also spoke about the need to make Teralba and Booragul train stations safe and accessible for people with limited mobility, and for more parking at Morisset and Fassifern stations. In short, our train stations need to be upgraded to support our needs.
Met with the Hunter Community Alliance to discuss social housing in Lake Macquarie (spoiler: we need more) and how minimum energy efficiency rental standards can help renters.
Hosted local tour groups from the Zonta Club of Hunter Newcastle and Lake Macquarie U3A.
Successfully moved an amendment to the Crimes and Other Legislation Amendment (Further Organised Crimes Reforms) Bill 2026 to require regular review of Digital Evidence Access Orders. These orders give law enforcement officers the power to compel people to provide access to their digital device or electronic data. In response to the increasing violence we’re seeing on our streets, the Bill expands the scheme and does away with the requirement for a search or crime scene warrant in the investigation of organised crime. Noting the intrusive nature of these orders, my amendment ensures the validity of the policy objectives continue to be examined and increases scrutiny of the whole Digital Evidence Access Order scheme.
Parliament also celebrated the Hindu festival of Raksha Bandhan with Bochasanwasi Shri Akshar Purushottam Sanstha (BAPS), honoured our heroes at NSW Emergency Services and I went head-to-head with Ausgrid apprentice Matt in a safety skills challenge.
With only a handful of sitting weeks left in the parliamentary term, I am hoping to see some progress on important reform before the end of the year.
