Local Legends

Local heroes

Every community has its quiet achievers. These are the people who volunteer their time, support their neighbours, and make a real difference without seeking recognition. This page is dedicated to celebrating some of these local legends and the outstanding contributions they make to our community.

Lake Macquarie has a proud history of producing world champions and I'd like to congratulate 22-year-old Peri Roberts from Coal Point after winning the Kite Surfing World Tour in Morocco. Becoming a world champion has been a life-long goal of Peri's and I'm thrilled she's achieved it.…

It's not every day that people have the courage and strength to follow their dreams, but I'm proud to say that's exactly what one of my youngest constituents and his mother have done in the most public of ways.…

We've all been saddened to see the devastating impacts the recent floods have had on communities in our State's north. I'd like to acknowledge the thoughtfulness and efforts of a group of Avondale School students and teachers to help people living in Lismore.…

It's not every day that I find myself acknowledging a young man on mastering the art of age-old weaponry, but Felix Kozakiewicz is worthy of recognition for his exceptional talent in fencing. Felix is in Year 9 at St Paul's Catholic College at Booragul and has shown endless dedication to developing his swordsmanship.…

I'd like to acknowledge 10 accomplished young students from Charlton Christian College on their appointment to the school's 2022 leadership team.…

I'd like to acknowledge Geoff and Helen See for the many years of dedication they've given to the Lake Macquarie Rural Fire Service Welfare Brigade. Geoff and Helen joined the Rural Fire Service in 1999 and since then have proved to be absolutely invaluable assets, primarily through their catering roles.…

I'd like to acknowledge the tremendous work done by Barbara and Kevin Weimer from Bolton Point in championing the sport of tennis throughout Lake Macquarie. Barbara and Kevin created the Bolton Point Tennis Club almost 50 years ago and since its inception have been heavily involved in every aspect of it.…

It's always pleasing to see Lake Macquarie's home-grown junior sporting talent turning their dreams into reality, so I'd like to acknowledge rising rugby league star Max Bradbury who is doing just that. Max, a former Wangi Warrior, was recently selected to represent NSW in the Under 19s Blues State of Origin side and was a starting prop.…

I'd like to congratulate 26-year-old Carl Gibbons from Westlakes Athletics Club who has represented Australia on the world stage for the second time this year. Last month Carl donned a green and gold bib to compete in the World Athletics Championship in the USA. The 25-year-old began his athletics career at Wangi Wangi at the age of three.…

I'd like to acknowledge and thank Sailability Toronto for the incredible service they provide to the Lake Macquarie community. As most of my constituents live on or near the beautiful lake, sailing has always been a facet of our community which many people enjoy either from the water or the shore.…
